A letter from the President: Advancing our mission through increasing access to real world data

Twenty-nine years ago, we launched our company, Carelon Research (then HealthCore), with a clear mission: to generate improved, relevant, and actionable evidence to inform healthcare decision making. As part of Elevance Health, one of the largest healthcare companies in the U.S., we have continued to expand and enrich our real-world data (RWD), allowing us to broaden our real-world evidence (RWE) service offerings to enhance the impact of the evidence we generate.

This year, I’m excited to share a major milestone in that journey: after decades of building and evolving the Healthcare Integrated Research Database (HIRD®) into one of the largest and most comprehensive research data assets in the U.S., we are now licensing and providing direct access to a certified de-identified, curated, pan therapeutic subset — Carelon Real World Data. This new licensing opportunity is a natural extension of our existing RWE services. It enables us to partner with clients in new ways, helping them generate meaningful evidence faster and more effectively.

About Carelon Real World Data

Carelon Real World Data is a certified de-identified, integrated dataset that combines closed claims, clinical records, and other relevant information. It is analysis-ready and directly sourced from the HIRD®. At Carelon Research, we have leveraged the HIRD® to produce over 3,000 publications to power our own RWE studies. We continuously invest in its accuracy, relevance, and timeliness. As we look ahead, we are developing curated therapeutic area-specific datasets tailored to our clients’ needs. When clients license Carelon Real World Data, they gain more than just access to data — they gain a trusted partner, and a service support model to ensure measurable value and impact.
